• Thousands Shut Down Black Friday in Chicago: ‘No Justice–No Shopping!’

Thousands of angry demonstrators have shut down Chicago’s ritziest shopping district large in the middle of Black Friday to protest the shooting of black teenager Laquon McDonald.

Video released on Tuesday shows seventeen-year-old McDonald, who was allegedly armed with a knife, walking away from police when he was shot 16 times by Officer Jason Van Dyke.

“No justice, no shopping! 16 shots!” protesters shouted as they marched down Chicago’s “Magnificent Mile” on Michigan Avenue under the banner of “Justice of Else”.

The Members from the Nation of Islam, the Revolutionary Communist Party and the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH coalition took part in the demonstration.

Police turned them away at the entrance to Water Tower Place, but they continue to try to enter other shopping areas with the intention of blocking commerce from taking place. As of noon, the protestors were walking toward the John Hancock tower.

Protestors are attempting to gain access to major department stores and shopping malls and have already effectively shut down nearly a half of mile of stores on Michigan Avenue for nearly half a mile, and plan to target the Chicago Board of Trade, one of the world’s most important commodities exchanges, in future demonstrations.
