• Big 10 Profs, Staff Lean Way Left For Campaign Cash

Big 10 professors and administrators have donated more than five times as much to Democrats as Republicans over the last 25 years, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation analysis of OpenSecrets.org data.

Employees at the conference’s 14 institutions have donated $18.4 million to Democrats, versus $3.4 million to Republicans, since 1990, with University of Wisconsin professors and administrators leaning furthest left.

Badger employees gave $2.5 million to Democrats, versus only $108,600 to Republicans in that time period. The sum of their donations, $2.6 million, also makes them the most politically active school in the Big 10.

    • New Jersey’s Rutgers University employees take the title for second-most liberal, giving $1.3 million to Democrats, versus $85,300 to Republicans since 1990.
    • University of Minnesota employees’ donations to Democrats outnumbered their donations to Republicans by 10 to 1 — $2.1 million versus $196,700.
    • University of Maryland faculty and staff, working just a few miles from Washington, D.C., gave $2 million to Democrats, compared with $251,700 to Republicans.
    • University of Nebraska employees came closest to being politically balanced, but still donated more than twice as much to Democrats as to Republicans — $444,300 versus $192,800.

Here is how employees at the other Big 10 schools donated over the last 25 years:

    • Indiana University employees donated $963,100 to Democrats, compared with $304,400 to Republicans.
    • University of Michigan employees donated more than $2 million to Democrats, versus $439,500 to Republicans.
    • Michigan State University faculty and staff donated $619,900 to Democrats, versus $105,500 to Republicans.
