• McConnell FIRES FIRST: No Scalia Replacement ‘Till New President

    Within hours after the shocking death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia the posturing to fill the newly empty seat began. Scalia was one of the high courts most ardent defenders of the Constitution. His shoes will be difficult to fill.

    Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell fires a warning shot across Obama’s bow.

    The Senate should not confirm a replacement for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia until after the 2016 election.
    “The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President,” the GOP leader said in a statement.

    The statement from the Kentucky senator came a mere hour after the news of the conservative justice’s death was reported by major news outlets, belying his usual cautious nature and daring a bruising political fight with President Barack Obama alongside two leading GOP presidential contenders from the Senate, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.

    Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) immediately called for a replacement. “Failing to fill this vacancy would be a shameful abdication of one of the Senate’s most essential Constitutional responsibilities,” Reid said in a statement.

    Rest assured a fight is brewing tonight. The balance of power is the prize. Hang on to your hats, this ride is going to get a little bumpy. Republican’s control congress, but will they stand and fight or give in to Obama?

    This is truly going to be an epic struggle. The death of Scalia is the single biggest event that could change the course of our country in the ten years.
