• COMMENTARY: Trump’s alliance with Elon Musk will Blow Up Like His Rockets

I voted for Donald Trump and am very disappointed that he has tapped the #NeverTrump movement for a high-ranking adviser.  Some insiders are surprised that many Republicans who didn’t support Trump in the general election have been rewarded with plumb jobs, yet it makes no sense that a man who supported a number of Republicans other than Trump, then supported Hillary Clinton over Trump in the general election – in addition to trashing Trump days before the election – has received a high ranking advisory role in the Trump Transition Team.

Telsa CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk said just before the election of Trump “I feel a bit stronger that he (Trump) is probably not the right guy.  He doesn’t seem to have the sort of character that reflects well on the United States,” said Musk on CNBC.  Now that Trump won, Musk is trying to get really close to Trump to continue his gravy train of Crony Capitalism in space travel, electric cars and solar

Musk was a strony Hillary Clinton supporter and raised tons of cash for her in California.  Musk maxed out to Hillary during the 2016 election. But now Trump has done the unthinkable, he appointed Musk to an advisory panel. Musk has long been on both sides of every issue and he seems to have snookered Trump.

Musk was a contributor this past election season to Republican Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC), not President-elect Trump. Musk disagrees with Trump on immigration and favors relaxing immigration laws.  Who advised President-elect Trump that it was a good idea to hire Musk?  Probably Elon Musk’s friend and freee market hero Peter Theil.  Conservatives and libertarians love Thiel because he has been a stalwart supporter of free markets and Musk has used his friendship with Thiel (from when they built PayPal) to sneak into the Trump circle of trust.

The biggest reason why Trump should say “You’re Fired” to Elon Musk is because Musk was #NeverTrump and did everything he could to elect Hillary Clinton.  Bloomberg reported on July 16, 2016, “Tesla’s Elon Musk, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg, Dreamworks co-founder Steven Spielberg, and actor Leonardo DiCaprio are among the Silicon Valley and Hollywood stars making California the No. 1 state for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign fundraising last quarter. Clinton, the front-runner among five candidates seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination, raised $8.1 million in the largest U.S. state, 17 percent of the nearly $47 million she took in from contributors during the quarter that ended in June, according to a filing Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission.” Why would Trump want this guy anywhere near his administration.

We know why Musk would want to be friendly with Trump.  He wants more contracts out of NASA and the Department of Defense to launch rockets and he will need to be friends with Trump to get that done.  Musk has been failing with his contract with the federal government.  He has had multiple rockets explode and has had a recent launch delayed a number of times.

Elon Musk has big plans for SpaceX and his biggest is a $10 billion grant from the Trump Administration to fund a for-profit mission to colonize Mars.  Musk wants the first trips to start as early as 2024 and according to Vanity Fair, Musk has a penchant for setting ambitious goals and then falling short, called that estimate “optimistic.”.”  The tickets will be $200K per person and he argues that “it’s not going to be a vacation jaunt. It’s going to be saving up all your money and selling all your stuff, like when people moved to the early American colonies.” Musk will not be selling off any assets, but he wants free money from the Trump Administration and he is so desperate for this cash that he is willing to join the Trump Administration in an advisory capacity to get his grant approved.

Insiders in Washington need to keep a close eye on Elon Musk to make sure he does not fleece the taxpayers for cash to colonize Mars when the United States has a $20 trillion in debt that necessitates cuts, not increases in spending for unnecessary tasks that don’t fall into the scope of what the federal government should do.
