• HuffPo Writer – White Athletes Who Don’t Kneel Are White Supremacists

Jess Benn is the author of a piece run by the Huffington Post on the 25th of September.

He styles himself as a “dad, partner, engaged citizen, opinionated writer, leftist, PhD student”.

I might add a few things to that list after reading his piece where he calls out whites who don’t kneel for the anthem as “White Supremacists”.

He tries to explain: “It’s a question of privilege.”

Not really Jess. It’s about honor to those who have served our flag for generations. Blacks, Whites, Asians, Indians, Hispanics, and everything in between.

It’s understanding the feeling of watching a wife be handed a triangle folded flag under a twenty-one gun salute and not being willing to let anyone of any race disrespect that.

I realize there is apparently a large section of Americans who view service to our country as menial, as somehow lesser. Those Americans get to enjoy the freedoms without honoring those who have sacrificed.

Mr. Benn describes love of country another way. He mocks.

We’ve all heard the typical argument against kneeling. “Kneeling during the anthem disrespects the flag and the soldiers who fought for your right to protest and blah blah blah patriotism!”

Now, I’m not going to spend much time with the most obvious counter, but it’s worth stating. In the fairytale we Americans tell ourselves where soldiers fight wars for freedom and not imperial conquests, the story says they’re fighting for someone’s right to protest, not the opposite. So using the troops as a cudgel against protest wholly misunderstands even our own national fairytale.

Sorry, but it’s not “blah, blah, blah patriotism” to me. I fervently love America. Go anywhere in the world and look at what they have. I almost guarantee you will come home with a new found appreciation for the red, white, and blue.

This is the greatest country on earth for all colors of skin. Remember the melting pot?

Mr. Benn, who is white, goes on to describe the privilege whites have and how it skews everything we see. He truly believes this stuff and he feels it is FACT, not just his opinion.

This isn’t a matter of opinion. Statistics reveal disparities along racial lines regarding wealtheducationhealthy foodemploymenthealth carehousingwagescriminal charges/sentences and practically every other imaginable measure of quality of life. This isn’t a mistake of history or attributable to individual or cultural traits of the oppressed. These are the results of centuries of systemic white supremacy, plain and simple.

No. Not so plain and simple. You see…black people were brought here as slaves. They were treated as animals. All at the hand of whites. Then other whites had a full blown war over it. We fought right here on American soil. Hundreds of thousands of white people died to set black people free, because it was the right thing to do. My ancestor, John Sherman, died in Andersonville prison.

He shed his blood for black people he would never know. He died so my white sister could marry a man of color and in our day and age, it is no big deal.

White people also did all of that and finally black people were set free. Then over time they were given every right and freedom that our land offers…true equality. The sins of our fathers die with them and their victories are passed down to us. That’s why we had a black president. That’s why black athletes make millions. It’s their talent and their freedom…not their skin color that got them all that.

The NFL and football is/was a beautiful picture of all races working together as a team for victory.

Judging a human by their skin color is wrong, but Jess Benn, in his liberal arrogance has no problem judging all whites one way…why? Simply by their skin color they are classified and labeled. We are better than that.

He lays out exactly his basis for his psychosis here:

And while the protest at the heart of all of this isn’t about the anthem or the flag, it is about calling on America to live up to its self-professed values. As long as black people are killed by cops in the streets or left to wither away in the state’s cages without recourse, that anthem and flag represent promises unfulfilled for millions of Americans.

Understand this. White supremacy — as in the structures of opportunity, the legacy of/ongoing oppression of non-whites, and the asymmetrical hoarding of resources by whites — is what affords us the privileges that limit our view, making a peaceful act of protest seem offensive in spite of the broader context of what’s being protested

It’s pretty standard liberal talking points, but disconcerting nonetheless. He using big words, like a good PhD student should, but it doesn’t hide his utter racism. If he truly sees the world the way he just described it, it’s not surprising he hates whites. How can he stand to look in the mirror?

Here is the good part where calls all of us evil, deluded, flag loving white people, white supremacists.

And the ignorant result of that privilege was on full display Sunday as white players stood next to their black teammates.

So let’s at least be clear that what those players stood for on Sunday was white supremacy. Full stop.

He equates NOT KNEELING if you are white to mean you are a WHITE SUPREMACIST.

There is the truth of it. There is no reasoning with this kind of lunacy. As my Senator Chuck Grassley, recently said about kneeling:

The only time to kneel is to pray.
