• 7 Minneapolis City Council Candidates Imagine a City with NO COPS

Seven Minneapolis City Council candidates can imagine a world without police.

I can imagine Unicorns too…that doesn’t make them reality!

It’s beyond disturbing that the leaders of a major U.S. city really believe in a world with police protection.

Do these same potential council-members also believe in allowing all citizens to be armed to protect themselves?

    I sincerely doubt it.

    According to the Star Tribune:

Seven City Council hopefuls say in a local voter guide that they can envision a future Minneapolis with no police.

Asked, “Do you believe that we could ever have a city without police?” two incumbents and five serious challengers running for City Council answered “yes.”

When questioned further those candidates said they would not immediately eliminate the police department. For safety sake, that’s good to know

However, the candidates said they were describing something they dreamed of:

“…they were describing an ideal future in which inequality and racism are eliminated and government policy has solved many of the social problems now handled by police arresting and imprisoning people.”

They have a pretty high opinion of just what government can accomplish. Government will suddenly legislate away…racism, inequality, and most all social problems. Wow! Sounds pretty amazing. I wonder why government hasn’t done that already?

Because government can’t do any of that!

“It’s aspirational, but it’s way aspirational,” said Council Member Lisa Bender, who said yes to the question. “We have a very long way to go before we would approach public safety without police.”

Janne Flisrand, a candidate for the Seventh Ward said this about her imaginary world:

“I can imagine that world, (a world with no police) and I think that is the world I want to live in,” Flisrand said.

Well, I dream of lots of things too.

After a story like this, the main thing being a world where crazy liberals aren’t in power!
