• Ouch! Democratic Committee Bitten by the Big, Bad ‘Lack-of-Diversity’ Bug

Surge Summary: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is experiencing a leadership shake-up, facing charges of insufficient diversity in their ranks.

    Irony, thy initials are DCCC.

    Jack Crowe elucidates:

The executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) resigned Monday after Democratic lawmakers and DCCC staffers lashed out publicly at the organization’s leadership over their failure to prioritize racial diversity.

Okay, make sure that settles in. A Democratic Congressional outfit is in turmoil because of … drum roll, please … deficient diversity accusations. An appendage of the putative party of minorities and the forgotten, little people riven by accusations of … lack of diversity?

Allison Jaslow announced her resignation during an emergency meeting that was held on Monday morning in response to calls from staffers and lawmakers for an “immediate restructuring” of the group’s senior leadership, Politico reported.

Democratic representatives Vicente Gonzalez and Filemon Vela of Texas specifically called for Jaslow’s resignation in a statement provided to Politico on Sunday.

To these Dem pols’ credit, they’re not mincing their words.

“The DCCC is now in complete chaos,” Gonzalez and Vela said in their statement.

“The single most immediate action that Cheri Bustos can take to restore confidence in the organization and to promote diversity is to appoint a qualified person of color, of which there are many, as executive director at once. We find the silence of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on this issue to be deafening.”

    Last week,

Last seek Politico revealed an enduring rift within the Committee, quoting staffers and lawmakers complaining about what they determine to be inadequate racial diversity not only within the group’s leadership but among the vendors they hire.

DCCC chairwoman Cheri Bustos was forced to bustle back to the nation’s capital Monday to meet with lawmakers’ and staffers. An emergency meeting Friday, sans Bustos, and a Saturday conference call didn’t resolve the issue.

Reports are that at Friday’s gathering Jaslow wept, owning blame for the lack of diversity while, during Saturday’s tele-conference, Bustos responded to the uprising by

emphasizing her marriage to a Mexican man and her son’s engagement to an African-American woman during the Saturday call. She also agreed to hold mandatory diversity training for Committee staff.

Hmmm. Is that sort of a liberal twist on the “some-of-my-best-friends-are-minorities” defense? I thought that was an illegitimate response to any racially charged attack?

So, the diversity-mongers are insisting that, now that the presumably-qualified-but-pesky white-person is out of the way, they fill the slot with another qualified individual – but this one possessing the appropriate skin pigmentation.

Sorry, but even after all these years of quotas, ethnic-bean counting and such there’s something creepily appalling about that.

And some people want folks who think like this to be seated behind the levers of our government and society?
