• Eyes-Wide-Open: Immigration Number One Problem, Say Record-High Number of Americans

Surge Summary: A recent survey found the illegal immigration issue as the problem troubling the most Americans.

Just when you’re on the cusp of giving up on the American people …

    Mairead McArdle reports:

The percentage of Americans identifying immigration as the nation’s “most important problem” has hit a record high although the Trump administration continues struggling with an unprecedented numbers of migrants incoming across the nation’s southern border. Mind you, maybe the increase of the latter is driving the increase of the former?

27 percent of Americans cited immigration as the “most important problem” facing the country in the latest Gallup poll, which surveyed 1,525 people polled from July 1 to 12. That twenty-seven percent was up four points from June’s poll.

As the border crisis has intensified – voilà! —

[i]mmigration has loomed larger in Americans’ minds this year

During the spring months when it becomes easier to travel, illegal crossings of undocumented migrants tend to spike and did so at particularly high rates this year.

    As would be expected,

there was a pronounced partisan split in poll responses, with 42 percent of Republicans citing immigration as the most pressing problem compared to only 20 percent of Democrats.

Translation: conservative-leaning sensible people tend to grasp the seriousness of the issue; oblivious, Leftist-friendly types do not.

The government and poor leadership ranked second among voters’ concerns, with 23 percent of people citing those as the most important problems the country faces. About 7 percent of people said race relations and racism were the most important problems, and another 7 percent cited health care.

What? No mention of “Climate Change”?

Yes, there really is hope for the American people …
