• Former Obama Aide: No, Trump Voters Not Deplorable Racists …

Surge Summary: A former Barack Obama aide speaks up that, no, all of Trump supporters may have been misled, but they are not racist.

When the “Russian Collusion” fixation finally fizzled and ended up bearing no fruit for Democrats, they seem to have pivoted to the “Trump-is Racist-Obsession.” It remains to be seen what the political results of that will be for the Donkey Party.

But hold on! A monkey wrench has been tossed into the works …

The Objectivist Staff by way of Lifezette explains:

Barack Obama and many of his fellow Democrats have loved nothing more than vilifying President Donald Trump and his supporters every chance they get. So it came as a huge surprise when a former Obama aide spoke out to defend Trump voters in a new interview.

Johanna Maska, who had worked for Obama, admitted on Monday that Trump supporters are not racist — she instead claimed they’d been “misled,” as The Daily Caller noted.

That diagnosis is hardly a stellar commendation of Donald Trump supporters – still, it beats the bigot charge by any stretch.

The setting was the opening of “The Daily Briefing” on Fox News. Host Dana Perino screened a clip of former Vice President Joe Biden. He recently admitted to voters that the Democratic Party blew it when it “stopped talking to them.”

“You know Vice President Biden. You worked for him,” Perino said to Maska. “I would imagine he was frustrated during the 2016 campaign when Hillary Clinton said the word ‘deplorable.’ It was something that he would not have said initially.”

“I think she expressed regret,” Maska said, defending Clinton. … [Then, continuing:] “I think for Joe Biden, it’s personal because he is from Scranton, Pennsylvania.”

Maska’s take is a thought-provoking one and she makes a connection not many others have.

“And so when you grow up in a place where they voted for President Obama and then they voted for President Trump, you know that Trump voters are not deplorable. They are not racist and they are not bad people, but they were misled. Now is the time for the Democrats to be talking to all voters. No one should be off the table.”

Those assertions, of course, sound like a strategy for winning over supporters – as opposed to so much of what we’re seeing from Democratic influencers these days: pandering to Progressive extremists, manufacturing moments that make Marxist-tinged Alexandria Ocasio Cortez-types feel good, vindictively seething and spitting at anything associated with Donald Trump.

Johanna Maska’s pseudo-defense of Trump boosters

comes shortly after Obama himself spoke out to condemn the president after the recent tragedies in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

Though he did not mention Trump by name, it was clear Obama was trying to bash the president when he said Americans must “soundly reject language” from any political leader who “feeds a climate of fear and hatred or normalizes racist sentiments.”

One wonders how the retired president feels if, in fact, he heard one of this former aides taking up for those who voted for Trump.
