• Recent Poll: Weak Gun Laws NOT the Main Cause of Gun Violence in America

Surge Summary: In a recent poll, a plurality of registered voters named mental illness the main factor in mass shootings in America.

Gun-control enthusiasts must be getting awfully frustrated. Despite their best efforts, a plurality of those recently surveyed don’t name firearms as the prime culprit in gun violence.

    Solange Reyner/Newsmax.com gives the backstory:

According to a new Hill-HarrisX poll published August 12, thirty percent of registered voters blame mental illness for mass shootings in the United States.

The survey comes after two recent mass shootings left 31 dead and dozens more injured. In El Paso, Texas, [a gunman] opened fire at a Walmart … Saturday [August 10], killing 22. He was charged with capital murder and is awaiting trial. In Dayton, Ohio, a day later, [another gunman] donned body armor and a mask before opening fire outside a bar with an AR-15 style weapon, killing nine.

    Other results from the poll?

    • 24% of registered voters said weak gun laws was the top reason for shootings.

    • 21% said hateful public rhetoric was the top reason.

    • 7% said social media was to blame.

    • 4% cited video games as the problem.

Many lawmakers, of course, have called for stricter firearms laws in the face of these atrocities. President Donald Trump is actively pursuing background check enhancements for gun purchasers.

The survey was conducted online among 1,000 registered voters, Aug. 8-9. The margin of error is plus-or-minus 3.1 percentage points.

That the largest percentage of respondents finger “mental illness” and not the weapons themselves for these attacks is astounding, particularly when one considers the non-stop “guns-are-the-root-of-all-evil” propaganda peddled by the Mainstream Media and political progressives.
