• In the Face of Hurricane Dorian, This Little Guy Shows the Rest of Us How Things Are Supposed to Be

Surge Summary: A young boy makes a personal sacrifice to bring some comfort to those negatively affected by Hurricane Dorian – and, hopefully, stirs all of us to do our part helping others in the process.

My, oh my! A wonderful story about an act of simple self-sacrifice. And one that probably ought to shame – and inspire – a good number of grown-ups among us.

CBN’s Andrea Morris passes along the refreshing specifics:

A six-year-old South Carolina boy was putting aside his birthday savings for a trip to Disney World. But life happened and he was prompted to put those cherished funds toward helping others, instead.

Jermaine Bell’s 7th birthday celebration was supposed to be a Lion King birthday party, as he ventured through Animal Kingdom, WJBF-TV in Augusta, Georgia reports.

Instead, he used his money to buy food and water, then gave the items out while residents evacuated Allensdale, SC, ahead of Hurricane Dorian.

The soon-to-be-seven-year-old changed his plans after hearing about distressed residents who were fleeing the area for their safety. His objective? To bring some peace and kindness to those being forced to abandon their homes and possessions.

“The people that are traveling to go to other places, I wanted them to have some food to eat so they can enjoy the ride to the place that [they’re] gonna stay at,” Bell explained.

He was aggressive in his humanitarianism, making signs posted on Highway 125 in Allendale promoting “free hot dogs and water”. They were positioned on both ends of the highway so that his efforts would not be missed. Clearly, this great kid was committed to helping out these folks.

Aretha Grant, the boy’s grandmother, witnessed a proud moment when Bell prayed for a family and their home.

“He actually even prayed for a family while they were here in reference to their house being okay when they got back, so that was really tear-dropping,” Grant said.

That’s gotta be one beaming Grandma.

Bell ended up serving close to 100 individuals. His message was straightforward:  “I wanted to be generous and live to give.”

The lad is hopeful his birthday celebration will occur eventually; and it looks like he’s probably correct in that.

GoFundMe was started so Bell could still have his dream birthday party at Disney World. So far, the effort has raised $12,280 dollars of his $5,000 goal.

Plainly, that GoFundMe response wasn’t Jermaine Bell’s motivation for his stellar deed, but if he comes out of this heartening scenario with an all-expenses paid trip to the Orlando, Florida wonderland? Who’s going to begrudge this young example of human decency that blessing?

[Update: The Disney Corp. gifted Jermaine with a trip to their World Resort.]
