• A Wise Mexican Government Would Take Up President Trump on His Offer …

Surge Summary: President Donald Trump has offered whatever assistance is necessary to Mexican authorities in order to bring down the drug cartels which recently slaughtered at least nine Americans. Mexico would be wise to take up the offer.

President Trump offered the Mexican government assistance in taking it to that country’s ferocious drug cartels earlier this week. His pledge came mere hours after cartel members gunned down at least nine Americans.

    Mairead McArdle/National Review writes:

“If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these monsters, the United States stands ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively,” Trump wrote in a string of tweets. “The great new President of Mexico has made this a big issue, but the cartels have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army!”

Travelling between the Mexican states of Sonora and Chihuahua on their way to a wedding in LeBaron, AZ, three vehicles carrying three mothers and their children were attacked. The family were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Cartel members fired on the vehicles, killing the mothers and seven of their children, including twin 4-month-old babies, and causing one of the vehicles to burst into flames. About a dozen other family members, including a child, are missing and suspected to be kidnapped.

“This is the time for Mexico, with the help of the United States, to wage WAR on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth,” Trump added. “We merely await a call from your great new president!”

Mexican Security Minister Alfonso Durazo said the cartel members may have mistaken the family’s vehicles for rival criminal groups.

[Editor’s note: Some sources claim the family of the murdered individuals have a history of conflict with the cartels, and this assault was associated with that clash and purposeful.]

I can think of all kinds of reasons why Mexican authorities might automatically decline the offer of U.S. aid – but they all pale beside the necessity of doing something to end this demonic cartel scourge; made gruesomely clear by this outrage. It has plagued the Mexican nation for as long as anyone can remember. If this travesty doesn’t wake up the relevant officials to take decisive and conclusive action, what will?

Conveniently for America’s southern neighbor, America’s president has made cracking down on these murderous, drug-running syndicates a priority of his campaign and administration. Earlier this year he actually floated the idea of designating them as foreign terrorist organizations – a fine idea: after all, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck …

“Mexico, unfortunately, has lost control of the cartels,” the president said in March. “They’ve totally lost control of the cartels.

Ouch. And plain-as-day true for decades now. Late events make evident there are portions of the beleaguered country that have been reduced to near-anarchy.

It is to address crisis like this that God created the concept of government:

“[T]he authorities that exist are appointed by God … not a terror to good works, but to evil. [The government authority] is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.” – Romans 13

Time for the powers-that-be in Mexico to start “executing wrath” – with U.S. help if needed – on these ruthless thugs that are turning their nation into a killing zone.
