• Dem Official’s Ill-Timed Knock on the President Bites Her — Big Time

Surge Summary: An Arizona Democratic leader accuses the President of being “aligned with ISIS” – just hours before he victoriously announces the death of notorious ISIS terror leader al-Baghdadi.

In what had to be a particularly uncomfortable moment for her, the chairwoman of the Arizona Democratic Party said in a public statement that Donald Trump had aligned himself with the terrorist organization ISIS – mere hours before the President announced the death of the terror group’s leader.

The Arizona Republic’s Ronald J. Hansen (per USA Today) brings the details:

On Tuesday, the Arizona Republic Party tagged Felecia Rotellini for her ill-timed remark at Saturday’s [Oct. 26th’s] “We the Voters Conference”, an event hosted by Citizens Clean Elections Commission in downtown Phoenix.

During a panel discussion, Rotellini explained why she thought people will show up to vote in 2020.

“Another reason why people are going to vote (is) because Donald Trump is manipulating the White House and has aligned himself with ISIS and Saudi Arabia,” Rotellini said.

State Republican Chairwoman Kelli Ward, who was part of the same panel, immediately interjected. “I have to say that is not true. That is not true,” Ward said as Rotellini tried to continue.

The GOP chairwoman’s defense of the Commander-in-Chief was rather promptly validated: Rotellini remarks came approximately one-hour before a Trump-authorized raid in northern Syria resulted in the death of the notorious jihadist leader. American forces trapped Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi – whereupon, the world’s most wanted terrorist blew himself up in a tunnel, along with three children.

“It was a poor choice of words,” Matt Grodsky, spokesman for the Arizona Democratic Party, said in an email to The Arizona Republic on Tuesday.

    Ya think?

Agree or disagree with the President’s Syria policy of a few weeks back, to defame him as “aligning himself with ISIS”? A bit of partisan overstatement, I’d say.

Grodsky said the comments stemmed from “President Trump’s haphazard decision to withdraw troops from Syria, which has been opposed by Republicans and Democrats alike because it abandoned our Kurdish allies in the fight against ISIS, empowered Iran, Russia, and the Syrian regime, and hurt our interests in the region.”

    Nonetheless, Ward countered:

“It is extremely disconcerting to hear the top Democrat in Arizona slander and malign an innocent person for being aligned with the world’s most evil terrorists, let alone the president of the United States,” she said.

“While fear-mongering from the left is expected up to a point, we have to draw the line somewhere if they’re going to refuse to police themselves. Baseless statements like those made by the chair of the Arizona (Democratic Party) are wildly irresponsible and not rooted in reality.”

One some level, candidly, the glow of this administration’s accomplishment potentially is diminished slightly by reports that Trump’s withdrawal orders forced the Pentagon to speed up the long-planned raid on al-Baghdadi’s location.

The New York Times reported that U.S. officials determined his whereabouts with a tip and collaboration with Iraqi and Kurdish intelligence officials.

Still, the terror big’s demise was a signal accomplishment – a shining moment for the President, no denying.

The wisdom of the president’s pulling U.S. forces out of the region is open to debate. But – as has become wearisomely predictable over the last few years – the Left’s and Democrats’ hysterical overreaction to Trump’s every twitch is continuing to blowback on them – illustrated by this abashed misstep.
