• As Prophesied? Israel and Egypt Broker Historic Agreement in Key Industry

Surge Summary: In a significant breakthrough, Israel has brokered an energy exporting agreement with one-time adversary Egypt. This holds great promise for both nations; and the Bible’s Old Testament foresaw these developments thousands of years ago.

Israel became a major exporter this week – an energy exporter.  It happened when the nation signed a permit to export natural gas to Egypt.

The announcement was made just days before a productive Israeli Mediterranean Sea gas field is expected to begin operations.

    OneNewsNow’s Chris Woodward reports:

“Financial Issues” radio host Dan Celia says it’s an “amazing thing” to watch the small nation develop what is considered one of the largest gas fields in the world and the largest in the Mediterranean.

In remarks reported by The Associated Press, Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz called the permit a “historic landmark” for Israel and said the project marks the most significant economic cooperation between the neighboring countries since they signed a peace deal in 1979.

“The natural gas revolution turns us into an energy power and affords us not just huge income for the country but also a dramatic decrease in air pollution,” Steinitz said.

Israel is planning to wean itself off coal thanks to the expected gas boon.

Celia provided this fascinating detail to his radio audience:  “There are verses in the Bible about the treasures beneath the sand in Israel. I think this is scripture unfolding before our eyes and it’s extremely exciting for us to see this kind of activity in Israel.”

Millennia-past, Psalm 81:16 and Deuteronomy 32:13 speak poetically of one of God’s blessing for His people being “honey from the rock”.

Deuteronomy 33:19 mentions Israel reaping “the abundance of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand.” (See also: Isaiah 60:5.)

Needful to mention, the benefits of this development go way beyond financial and environmental: we see here two former adversarial nations continuing to form bonds that, prayerfully, will lead to more amicable future relations between them – perhaps spreading throughout the Middle East.

The Scriptures also speak of this eventuality: Isaiah 19 prophesies of a time when Israel and Egypt will come together in comity.
