• It Can Be Confusing: ‘Black Hebrews’ No Friend of Country They Claim

Surge Summary: One terrorism expert explains the so-called “Black Hebrew Israelites” – a group associated with a man who, with the help of a woman accomplice, killed three orthodox Jews in New Jersey last week – are, actually, no friends of Israel. They bizarrely claim they are the “real” Israelites and modern day Jews are not.

Doubtless, a number of news-watchers have been scratching their noggins in recent days, hearing accounts last week of self-styled “Black Hebrew Israelites” murdering Orthodox Jews in Jersey City, New Jersey. Why would self-proclaimed Israelites target and slaughter fellow Jews?

Well, OneNewsNow’s Chad Groening helps clarify with his report on a U.S.-born Israeli author and terrorism expert who says the controversial group known as the Black Hebrew Israelites are, in fact, not supporters of Israel at all.

Upon reviewing their city’s closed-circuit camera system, Jersey City authorities have determined the now-dead shooting suspects, sure enough, deliberately targeted a Jewish market.

It’s also believed the deadly pair, a man and woman, murdered a police detective at a city cemetery before moving on to the store. There they killed three people before police ultimately took them down.

Investigators say their van was filled with anti-Semitic and anti-police writings, and one of the attackers appears to have had links to the Black Hebrew Israelite movement.

David Rubin says the group claims to be the “real” Israelites and hence claims the Jews are not.

The religious sect is well known in large cities, where group members conduct their street preaching to passersby on city sidewalks.

“They’re not friends of Israel,” Rubin says. “They’re not lovers of Israel. They’re not allies of Israel.”

To be clear, the cult-like group has not previously been associated with violence against Jews. That noted, Rubin remarks the combination of fervid religious beliefs with mental instability makes it easy to understand how an atrocity like this could unfold.
