• Oh, the Horror! Peloton Ad Get’s Pampered Leftists All Riled Up

Surge Summary: A new add for the Peloton exercise bike has folks on the Right and Left — but especially the Left — all worked up. Really? If this is all people have to fret about, they have a pretty awesome life.

    About that Peloton ad

Dear divided America or least those too caught up in politics to identify and appreciate humor: Rejoice, for we have found a reason to come together.

Hot Air’s Allahpundit wrote a funny piece about how the ad appears to be a hostage video.

The actress’s weight isn’t the weird part. The weird part is the … eagerness with which she shows her gratitude. It’s lovely to be grateful for an expensive gift, but she’s *really* grateful and *really, really* wants her husband to know it. It’s not just that she feels compelled to record herself using the bike repeatedly over a span of many months. She looks curiously anxious doing it, even when smiling into the camera. At the end of the clip, when she finally shows him the footage, her eyes are trained on his reaction, seemingly desperate for his approval.

Is, um… How do I put this?

Is everything okay between these two?

The actress portraying the domestic abuse victim should actually be paying Peloton for this level of media exposure. A fat portion of my paycheck says she’ll have a tv or movie deal before long so don’t be surprised if “F Trump!” and “Carbon Footprint!” escape her collagen-filled lips at 2020’s Golden Globes.

We know the left ruins everything it touches from sports to late night comedy to a children’s library story hour. But what these people haven’t yet thwarted is the harmony and communion that descends upon both tribes when we encounter something that strikes us as legitimately funny. Like the 1914 Christmas Truce, we put down our bayoneted tweets and embrace each other like old friends while turning our collective attentions to rhetorically bash the skulls of the creative team at Peloton who came up with this promotion.

    Smell the unity.

The other funny part, and this is why the left is insufferable, is there are people actually taking umbrage. Ah, the power of the media where pearl clutchers’ lives are so fulfilled that they get upset about an ad for an exercise bike that most of us wouldn’t spend money on even if we could afford it. For people of this sort, I hope this is the worst of your life (emphasis mine),

Titled “The Gift That Gives Back,” the 30-second commercial is a mere glimpse into the barrage of horror its protagonist, a young wife and mother, slogs through daily. At the outset, her husband gives her the titular Gift: a Peloton. She recognizes the machine instantly and exclaims accordingly. It is unclear whether or not she already has an inkling of how this bike will become the instrument of her subjugation.

May we all have more Pelotons.
