• Iran Launches Operation ‘Martyr Soleimani’: Missile Strike at U.S. Facilities in Iraq

Surge Summary: As they pledged, Iran has struck back at the U.S. for its drone attack which killed Iranian General/Chief Terrorist Qassem Soleimani, launching missiles at U.S. facilities in Iraq. President Trump is being briefed on the situation and is expected to address the nation later today.

They flamboyantly promised a vengeful response, so nobody should be surprised. Still, a sobering moment:

    Carlos Garcia/The Blaze reports:

Officials from the Pentagon confirmed reports to Fox News on Tuesday that Iran was retaliating against US facilities in Iraq after an airstrike that killed Qassem Soleimani, a top leader of the Iranian military.

“Under missile attack from Iran,” the short statement read. “These are either cruise missiles or short range ballistic missiles. All over the country.”

Jennifer Griffin added  the source said the missiles were fired from the ground in Iran at multiple US bases and other Iraqi targets.

Bloomberg reported  Iran state television said the operation was named “Martyr Soleimani” – after Iranian top general/terror chief.  Another report passed along the response involved “tens” of missiles. (Fox News reports there were fifteen missiles fired and were no casualties.)

Per Griffin on Fox News: When she asked the official if US forces were pulling out, they responded, “no, defending.” (Roughly 5,000 US troops in Iraq.)

A White House statement relayed the following:

“We are aware of the reports of attacks on US facilities in Iraq, … The President has been briefed and is monitoring the situation closely and consulting with his national security team.”

According to Fox News, the President will be addressing the nation on the matter later today.
