• Liberal Hypocrisy: Meghan Markle Pushes Policies, Doesn’t Want to Live Under Them

Surge Summary: It appears by manipulating tax laws to advantage her business, actress/wife of Great Britain’s Prince Harry Meghan Markle is just like lots of other liberals: supporting policies under which she doesn’t want to live herself.

So, let me stress that there is nothing that I find less interesting, less intriguing, less worth my time, than any and all stories having to do with the British royal family. Call me an arrogant Yank, but I legitimately Could. Not. Care. Less. At the risk of overselling my disinterest, let me just say that I would sooner watch a soccer game than hear about the Dukes, Duchesses, Queens, and Princes.

But Meghan Markle is of interest to me – not in her royal family role, or in her efforts to apparently withdraw from such. No, I’m interested in Markle as a prototypical American liberal who supports politicians and seeks the implementation of public policy that they personally have no desire to live under.

For those who didn’t know, before marrying into the royal family, Meghan Markle was an outspoken feminist and former actress here in the United States. She had her own clothing line and owned her own lifestyle company called “Frim Fram” and her own website, “The Tig.” Once her marriage with Hollywood actor and producer Trevor Engelson ended in divorce, she connected with Prince Harry, got engaged, and then shuttered her businesses and private life.

But now Harry and Meghan are planning a return to the United States – once President Trump leaves office, of course. What’s interesting about that is their stated intention to move back to Meghan’s home state of California. But even though the physical environment of the Golden State has enticed them, it seems the business environment facilitated by years of far-left leadership isn’t quite as inviting:

“Frim Fram Inc. — which ran Meghan’s defunct website ‘The Tig’ — registered as a new corporation in Delaware on Dec. 30, according to business records. The former actress founded ‘The Tig’ in 2014, but shut it down in 2017, just before marrying Prince Harry,” added Delaware Online. “The company was previously incorporated in California, but started the process to incorporate in Delaware this fall, according to documents. Meghan’s business manager, Andrew Meyer, was listed as the secretary on the certificate of merger.”

Many, many, corporations register in Delaware where “companies are not required to reveal the names of their owners,” Delaware Online says, and where the climate is much better for businesses looking to pull down serious profits. Other states have similar business tax structures, of course, but Delaware’s policies, which allow a “lawyer or an agent to sign as the authorized person,” thus “allowing owners’ identities to remain secret” was probably a big bonus for the royal couple.

So in a transparent attempt to avoid paying the onerous tax burden on businesses in California, the liberal couple made the decision to move their operation out of what will be their home state. This entire effort is dripping with elite privilege. Constantly lecturing “the wealthy” about their need to “pay their fair share,” liberals promote and enact debilitating tax policies in the name of fairness and justice.

But who is actually forced to pay those taxes? Wealthy businesspeople like Meghan? Nope. They just use their resources to relocate their corporations, having a two-pronged effect – first, shipping good jobs out of state, and second, leaving less fortunate middle-class citizens to pay the hefty tax burden.

At the federal level, the principle remains every bit as consistent. When the federal tax burden is increased by liberal economic policy (in the name of fairness, of course), the wealthy merely move their corporations overseas to more business-friendly environments, sticking it to the rest of us.

This is why you will often hear citizens in states like Texas beg the migrating Californians to remember why they’re fleeing their home state and not to bring their politics with them. In this case, perhaps we can ask Meghan and Harry to leave theirs in the UK?
