• A Scandal? Why Does New York City Seem So Non-User Friendly to Harvey Weinstein?

Surge Summary: Accused Hollywood mogul/sex offender Harvey Weinstein seems to be using a walker just about every time the media shows him lately. Why is he seen struggling up stairs? Doesn’t New York City have ramps for the disabled to use? Is the media trying to pant a sympathetic portrait of the disgraced film executive? This is an odd and suspicious set of circumstances.

Is NYC a non-ADA compliant city?  Every time we see Harvey Weinstein making his way to court, he’s always toddling behind a walker until he encounters stairs, at which time some poor schlub takes his walker while Harvey death-grips the railing on his way down the stairs. Is NYC for all its presumed excellence the only town in America that lacks ramps for those that use walkers and wheelchairs?  (I doubt it).  I know of towns with populations under 40,000 that are more ADA compliant than media depictions of Harvey Weinstein.

Know what’s really happening here? There are ramps Harvey could be using, and the media can’t show them. We are in a weird phase of post-Americana Americana in which the disgraced must be sainted, and thus the quest for Saint Harvey of Weinstein begins with media driven imagery of him and his wheeled walker and his unnecessarily tortuous walks down steps in a NYC that is apparently behind Mayberry when it comes to the ADA.

Or in other words, the media needs Harvey more than his victims need justice, and between the two who speaks to the largest audience?
