Surge Summary: Valentine’s Day Ought to remind all of us of the importance of marriage … and of all relationships. We each need to do what we can to see all our relationships as strong and helathy as they can be.
Soon we’ll express our love to spouses and special ones in honor of Saint Valentine. This man of God had a ”secret” ministry marrying youth when wicked Emperor Claudias prohibited it believing it hindered men’s fighting ability. Valentine was eventually caught, imprisoned and martyred (decapitated) in 269 AD for defying the edict. His conviction upholding the sacredness of love and marriage cost him his life but he inspires us in the “cloud of witnesses“ to honor God’s design for relationships. His last words were captured in a note he wrote to the daughter of his newly converted judge, Asterius, signing it, ”from your Valentine.”
There comes a time where we have to lay our life upon the line for what we believe. This is especially true when there are relational breakdowns and the need for forgiveness and reconciliation.
My Dad and Mom are in heaven today. Mom passed away in her late 80s with me at her bedside reciting the 91st Psalm and Dad in his mid-70s upon returning from a Sunday service. What triggered their conversion was when my sister asked forgiveness for her disrespect and disobedience opening the door for healing lingering conflict in their relationship.
When Doris repented and yielded her life to Jesus at 21, she immediately went home and asked forgiveness of her parents to get reconciled and restore their broken relationship. God honored this humility which eventually led to the other 6 siblings at home coming to Christ (and a number later entered full-time Christian ministry)!
How about you? In your journey thus far have you accumulated any broken relationships that have never been healed? Is there anyone in your past that could look you in the eye and say, “You wronged me and never attempted to help us get things right?”
3 SUGGESTIONS AS YOUR FRIEND:
- Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to bring to your attention any relationship where you need to take some initiative to get things right.
- Give a listen to the “Here’s the Deal“ podcasts we do together on Charisma Podcast Network on “Resolving Relational Conflict” to inspire you.
- Read through the booklet I enclosed with our update letter that is a life changer in this area!
