The reason Americans distrust restrictions is…officials, in so many cases, have not articulated the science upon which those restrictions were based.
For example, Mayor Garcetti in Los Angeles has not explained the science behind his decision to ban walking on wet sand. Governor Whitmer in Michigan never explained the science behind her decision to ban the purchase of vegetable seeds or house paint. There are countless, similar examples and in all cases, Americans remain open to listening to the scientific argument for what appear as arbitrary restrictions.
When the science isn’t articulated, it leads Americans to believe there is none behind these restrictions – as a result, restrictions appear as the contradictory and inconsistent product of officials who have no idea what they are doing.
