• Holding a Dem Pol Accountable! CNN’s Tapper Unloads on NY Guv Andrew Cuomo

Surge Summary: CNN’s Jake Tapper recently held Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo accountable for gloating over his failed COVID-19 policy. It was a refreshing change of pace for the mainstream media – and good for him.

Shortly after the 2016 election, when I had a little more time on my hands than I do presently, I started listening to Ben Shapiro’s podcast. At that point in time, based on his rocket-powered rise to the top of the podcasting world, I think most every other American was doing the same. If you were among that number you will remember he had a segment called Good Trump/Bad Trump. Maybe he still does it, but like I said, I just don’t have time to listen these days.

The premise was simple and wise: praise President Trump for the good things that he does (and there were plenty of things that he did right), and criticize President Trump for the bad things that he does (and there were plenty of things that he did that left a rational person scratching their head).

Though I don’t anticipate it catching on nearly as effectively as Good Trump/Bad Trump, I have to admit that I’m ready to start a running tab on CNN’s leading journalist. Call it Good Tapper/Bad Tapper.

As I’ve written before, Jake Tapper used to be one of my favorite journalists. When he was with ABC I became impressed with what appeared to be a Tim Russert or even Chris Wallace-style devotion to holding both sides’ feet to the flames. You know, real investigative interrogations on behalf of the people. Journalism rather than advocacy.

Unfortunately, the Turner Machine at CNN has had a lasting impact on Tapper and it’s disappointing. Far too often (for my liking anyway), the once intrepid journalistic mind is bogged down in the same propaganda pushing that defines a network of Brian Stelters, Chris Cuomos, Don Lemons, Brooke Baldwins, and Oliver Darcys.

But when Good Tapper comes to play, it’s always a delight. And if you missed it, a day after ripping the White House for undermining the country’s leading epidemiologist, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Tapper unleashed on New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s absurd (and brutally insensitive) victory lap regarding COVID response.

Remember, Cuomo’s New York suffered more death than all of the currently surging southern states combined. In fact, it isn’t even close. New York was a hell hole, and Cuomo’s shocking order to load nursing homes with over 6,000 coronavirus patients initiated untold numbers of additional deaths. Yet now, because his state essentially saw coronavirus sweep through the entire population of New York City unabated, infections are disappearing. And Cuomo wants to take credit.

Not only that, he wants to hold himself and his state out as a model for what every other state should have done. It’s brazen, it’s arrogant, and it’s unbelievably dumb. But since he’s a Democrat, the Democrat-Media Complex has been largely passive in responding to Cuomo’s embarrassing strut. But not Tapper. Perhaps surprisingly, given that he works at the same network as Governor Cuomo’s brother, Tapper invited Dr. Sanjay Gupta on to drop a truth bomb or two on the Gov’s victory tour.

Of course, Tapper is right to expose lies of Republican office holders too. And he does that plenty. It’s just that in mainstream media this kind of accountability journalism is almost exclusively a one-way street. So when someone decides to bravely go against the flow of traffic, I’m willing to offer the praise for it.

    Good Tapper.
