• The Queen of Daytime Talk? Why the Sudden Hostility Toward Ellen Degeneres?

Surge Summary: Is it possible a recent outbreak of hostility toward talk-host Ellen Degeneres is surfacing because she is considered “too white” and has dislodged Oprah Winfrey as the leading daytime talk show host? An awkward exchange with actress Dakota Johnson last fall has spiraled into a campaign of attacks on Ellen’s reputation. Has her “whiteness” canceled out the points she might otherwise earn because of her lesbian-identity?

She presents herself with blond hair and blue eyes. She toppled the black-haired, brown-eyed Oprah Winfrey as the queen of daytime talk shows.

    What’s not to hate?

According to ranker.com, Ellen Degeneres is the leading daytime talk show of all time, beating out Oprah (second place) and also-black Wendy Williams (third place).

Ellen, in fact, is the only white female solo act in the list’s top ten. You will need to scroll down to the number 12 position to find another white woman. There you will see dark-haired, brownish-eyed Rachel Ray.

Given her out-of-the-closet advocacy for homosexual privilege, one would expect the far-left to embrace Ellen. But some offenses are too grievous to overlook and, consequently, override such valued qualities as chumming with Michelle Obama.

Ellen, it seems, is just too quintessentially white. In spite of other qualities valued by the far-left, her hair-color choice and blue eyes make her anathema to those hell-bent on demonizing anything and everyone who presents a positive image of white people.

In case you haven’t noticed, white women are the demographic de jour for the far-left to hate. With that at the forefront of the agenda, haters have pilfered the name “Karen” as a pejorative to depict all assertive white women as obnoxious and overbearing.

Hence the vilification of Ellen as toxic.

The media is insistent on throwing the lesbian under the public-perception bus. To that end the far-left has crafted an image of Karen, er, uh, Ellen as a noxious, caustic, and narcissistic psychopath; otherwise known as the typical white woman.

Our unsolicited advice to Ellen: Stop dying your hair (assuming she does) and wear brown contact lenses.

Did “50 Shades of Grey” star Dakota Johnson bring down one of the most popular talk show hosts in history?

Well, no – but you might have recently seen a lot of jokes on Twitter that say as much. Ellen DeGeneres’s reputation has been on a downward slide since roughly last fall, when, during a particularly awkward interview, DeGeneres accused Johnson of not inviting her to a birthday party and Johnson replied with the now infamous quote, “Actually, no, that’s not the truth, Ellen.”

But that was just one in a series of controversial incidents surrounding DeGeneres, which culminated in a much more serious way last week after a pair of BuzzFeed articles alleged a toxic work environment on the daily talk show, as well as allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct by producers. Warner Bros. launched an internal investigation. DeGeneres sent an email to staff that said she took responsibility as the face of the show, but criticized her employees for not “do[ing] their jobs as they knew I’d want them done.” As a result, she wrote, she and the production company will be “taking steps, together, to correct the issues.”

If you’re curious about how things got to this point, here’s a guide to how DeGeneres’s public persona went from the “new Queen of Nice” to even fellow celebrities calling her out for treating people “horribly.”
